FAQ’s

We’ve compiled some of the most frequently asked questions that we have received from our referring partners. Have more questions? Contact us at info@coloradobehavior.com or (719) 466-4809 and we would be happy to answer your questions!

  • Day 1 — Referral received. Automated confirmation sent to your office. Our intake coordinator reviews same-business-day and routes to the appropriate clinic.

Days 1–3 — Family contact. Our intake team reaches out to the patient's family/guardian to verify insurance and introduce CBLG.

Days 3–10 — Tour and consultation. The family is invited to tour the clinic and meet our clinical team.

Days 10–21 — Records and assessment scheduling. We coordinate any remaining records transfer (with your help) and schedule clinical assessment appointments.

Weeks 3–6 — Services begin. Comprehensive clinical assessment, individualized treatment plan, and 1:1 programming.

You will receive a status update via fax, phone, or email if the referred patient is unable to schedule within 30 days of our receiving the initial referral.

  • Not sure whether CBLG is the right fit for a patient on your caseload?

We welcome pre-referral conversations — especially for complex cases, uncertain fit, or patients whose previous placements have broken down. These conversations help us both: you get an honest read on fit and timing; we get the context we need to serve your patient well if a referral moves forward.

Contact our team at intake@coloradobehavior.com or 719-466-4809 to schedule.

  • Is CBLG the right fit for my patient?

If your patient has an autism spectrum diagnosis (or is in the diagnostic process) and would benefit from structured, 1:1, evidence-based behavioral therapy, CBLG is likely a good fit. We serve patients across the full autism lifespan — from early intervention through adulthood — and specialize in complex cases, severe behavioral presentations, and patients other programs have declined. When in doubt, call us at 719-466-4809. We'll give you an honest read on fit before you complete a referral.

  • Yes, we accept profound autism and challenging behaviors (aggression, self-injury, elopement, property destruction) as a clinical specialty at CBLG, not a disqualifier. We routinely accept patients whom other providers have declined or discharged due to behavioral complexity, across all ages.

  • While some major insurance providers require a formal autism diagnosis for insurance authorization for ABA Therapy, we also work with individuals who face challenges due to Oppositional Defiance Disorder, ADHD, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and similar conditions. Our programs are designed for children, adolescents, and adults who may have been removed from traditional environments due to severe behavioral issues, and we can work with you to find additional resources to help cover the cost of care.

If your patient is currently undergoing diagnostic evaluation, call us before referring — we can begin pre-intake coordination while the evaluation is completed.

  • The most common reasons ABA referrals are denied: missing ICD-10 code (insurers want F84.0 explicitly, not just the word "autism"); missing NPI for the referring provider; missing date of diagnostic evaluation; no explicit medical necessity statement for ABA; and missing physical or immunization records. Our updated referral form flags all required fields with a red asterisk (*) and includes a pre-written medical necessity statement. Complete all asterisked fields, attach the physical and immunization record, and referral denials drop significantly.

  • With appropriate releases, we provide intake acceptance confirmation within 10 business days, initial clinical assessment summaries, and progress reports aligned with payor cadence (typically every 6 months). You will receive a status update if the referred patient is unable to schedule within 30 days of our receiving the referral.

  • Absolutely. Tours are open to referring providers by appointment either individually or as a clinical team. Contact our intake office to schedule.

  • Yes. We routinely coordinate with schools (IEP meetings, BIP collaboration), medical providers, and concurrent therapists (SLP, OT, PT, mental health). With appropriate releases, our BCBA team is available for coordination calls, in person coordination and interdisciplinary case reviews.
